Expansion

The Picton Library has been serving residents in its current facility for over 111 years. It is a Carnegie Library and a designated heritage landmark on Main Street. It is the busiest of the six libraries which make up the Prince Edward County Public Library and Archives.

Following extensive consultation and public surveys, this much-loved public facility will be undergoing an extensive renovation and expansion slated to start in the spring of 2019.

The library has seen increase in membership, visits, borrowing and need. This growth as well as the changing needs of our community are the driving force behind the library’s exciting renovation project. The renovated and renewed library will put us in a position to expand services and provide for the future—ensuring that the Library remains a gathering place for learning, collaboration, personal development and inspiration for at least another 111 years!

Highlights of the renovation include:

  • An expanded collection
  • A new lecture theatre/flex space with assistive technology
  • An enlarged children’s area and a dedicated Makerspace for STEM learning
  • Flexible quiet workspaces and meeting rooms
  • Multi-purpose space/internet cafe
  • Accessibility improvements and public washrooms
  • An efficient, environmentally-conscious design

Fundraising goal:
We need your help to make this project happen and every dollar helps. Bequests, donations, efforts by the Friends of the Picton Library, a John M and Bernice Parrott Foundation grant, and investment from the PEC Council, have ensured that we reach $1,280,000 of the $2 million-dollar expansion budget. Time to Renew is a once-in-a-lifetime campaign to raise the remaining monies needed for the Picton Library Expansion.

Your gift will have a lasting impact in our community:

For the month of October (2018), all donations will be matched, up to a maximum of $100,000.
