Book Reviews

Persepolis is a historical memoir that follows the author and her family during the Iranian Dictatorship, war, and revolution. With a simple but vivid, black and white format, and a mix of expressive cartoons, the characters are realistic and dynamic. There’s a lot of symbolism in the panels if your eye can catch it! As well as interesting metaphors, occasional mature content, tragedy, and humor. Overall, it’s a great personal insight into the lives of normal people, during the Iranian revolution and those who faced oppression under the controlling regime.
