Wendy Edmunds has lived in many of different places over the years. Each time she moves to a new place, she gets involved with the local newcomers club so she can find information and begin to develop connections in her new community. When she moved to Prince Edward County, she found finding information particularly difficult, so she took matters into her own hands: with the library’s support, she started the Prince Edward County Newcomer’s Club.
The group meets weekly on Tuesdays at 10 am at the Picton Branch Library and is always looking for new members. Here is the February schedule:
February 7: Introduction to the County – The first Tuesday of each month offers a chance to chat and get to know others new to the area.
February 14: Member Focus – The second meeting of every month focuses on an interest of one member of the group. This month, member Gary Hoy has invited Tim Noxon to come speak to the group. Tim is from Vicki’s Veggies, an organic farm in the County.
February 21: Guest Speaker – Each month the library finds a a local speaker to help members learn about the county. In February the speaker is Janet Kellough, a well-known County author and playwright.
February 28: Coffee Meet up – Location to be determined. This meeting is an opportunity to see the County by joining others for coffee at a predetermined cafe.
